The first entrance to Anou Boussoul Cave was discovered a long time ago by locals and it has been under excavation since then. Anou Boussoul Cave was first explored by two French speleologists, who were Anemond J. Anou and L. Anou in 1952. One of the most recent discoveries in Anou Boussouil was made by Dr. Hussam Zaher, a speleologist (a person who studies caves) from Lebanon. On May 28th, 2012 he found an entrance to Anou Boussouil that was previously unknown. It’s located one kilometer south of Anou El Kseur, and was hidden by a subterranean gallery. Anou Boussouil’s new entrance is 61 meters deep and 3 meters high above the ground.
Since Anou Boussouil’s new entrance is located in a forest, it will be difficult to reach. An official Anou Boussouil website created by Dr. Zaher says Anou Boussouil visitors will need to hike for two hours instead of one hour to access the cave.
Although Anou Boussouil’s new entrance is now easier to reach, Anou Boussouil still hasn’t been opened to the public yet. A security system has been installed at Anou El Kseur cave located near Anou Boussouil. The security system includes cameras and alarms to protect both caves Anou El Kseur and Anou Boussouil from vandalism. Anou El Kseur is also expected to receive a new entrance soon to protect Anou El Kseur’s interior from graffiti.
The Anou Boussouil official Facebook page said: “Anou Boussouil is not opened yet to the public because we need time for preparation in order to have everything ready, especially Anou Boussouil’s visitor center with its paths and water pipelines.
