The Caves of Hercules are named after the Greek mythological figure, Hercules. The legend states that when he was carrying out 12 labours, one of them was to kill a giant with 3 heads called Geryon who lived in the Caves of Hercule . Caves of Hercules are known for their interesting wildlife, most notably the endemic birds called Cretzschmar’s Bunting. Caves of Hercules is also home to various species of bats and scorpions which can be found in great numbers inside the caves.
